Production of my contents page

In this post I am going to show you a step-by-step guide on how I made the contents page for my music magazine

1st: I began by adding in these two blocks, I have put them in to separate the contents page and to make it look more organised.

2nd: I have added in my editors letter to my contents page. This is important because it gives a bit more information to the reader about the magazine that week.

3rd: Now I have added the name of the magazine to the top of the contents page. Also I have added the word contents to the top. This is there to show the reader what page they are looking at.

4th: I have added a photo of the editor to the top of the page. This gives the reader an in site into who is making this magazine.

5th: I have added photos of some of the other things that are going to be in my magazine. This is more exciting because you wont just be looking at words on a page, you get to see what the article will be like because of the picture.

6th: Now I have added another photo of my cover model. The reader gets another look at her to remind themselves of her before they go and read the article.

7th: I got from the questionnair that my target market wanted to have chart updates in this magazine so I have listened and I have added it on to the contents page where they can see it.

8th: I have added two sections to my contents page. The top one is "In every issue", this just shows the reader what is going to be in the magazine each week. The other section is "Features", these are sections of the magazine that are only in it for one week.

9th: I have added another section to my contents page. This one is called "Music", this is where they cover story is placed and other things related to new/old music.

10th: I have added my final section to my contents page. This one is called "Reviews", this is where we chose 4 songs, artists, videos, albums etc and tell the reader what we think.

11th: The final thing that I had to add to my contents page. The little box in the bottom right hand side of the page is where the magazine trys to get the reader to subscribe to this magazine by offering them the magazines at half price.

Music magazine contents page

In this post I am going to be showing you the mock up of the contents page for my music magazine.

For my contents page I have decided to separate the different sections of the magazine.
On the far left hand side of my contents page I have the editor’s letter. This is so it does not interfere with the main parts of my magazine. I have also added the name of this magazine to the top of the editor’s letter because it just reminds the reader which magazine they are reading. Under the title I am going to have a photo of the editor. This gives the reader an insight into who is making the magazine.
Next to that I have the chart information for that week. This was because in my questionnaire, my target market wanted to have some sort of chart update and I think this will work for them.
In the top right of the contents page I am going to put some pictures of some of the different sections of the magazine. I think that this will make it look better an also it will be better for the reader to see what is in the magazine as well as read it.
I have also decided to have another photo of Hannah at the top just under word contents, just to give the reader another look at her before they read the article.
The final things to go on to the contents page are the directions to the pages with the articles on, they will be placed on the right hand side. Then right at the bottom of the page will be a little box that will try to get people to subscribe to this magazine

Changes…as a consequence of feedback

I have made some changes to my front cover because of the answers that I received from my questionnaire.
In my questionnaire I was told that my cover lines were too small. Which is not good because if people can't read my magazine then they wont buy it.
So I have made the price, date and issue , single of the week bigger so that people will be able to read them. I don’t want people not to buy my magazine because they can’t read what’s in it.
Having bigger cover lines help sell my magazine because they will catch peoples eyes as they walk past. If people can see what is on the cover then they are more likely to read the rest of the magazine.
I also got told by my target market that my front cover needed some more cover lines because there was a big gap between 'single of the week' and 'Hannah'.
So I decided to move both 'album of the week' and 'single of the week' down the page. Then I have added in ‘the top song writers to watch’ in between 'the hottest artists right now' and 'album of the week' to my front cover.

Questionnaire of front cover

In this blog post i am going to show you the questions and answers to my questionnaire for the front cover of my music magazine
1.  What do you like about this front cover?

I have asked 10 people what they think of my front cover.
David said: “I think that the title is a good font and it is very eye catching. I think that it does go well with the pop genre but I think that you need to make it more colourful. I don’t think that you have enough ‘selling’ points on the cover such as celebrity names. I think that the changes that I would make would be that I would add more pictures.

Lesley said: “I like that you have kept the same colours throughout the front cover. Also I think that the title really stands out. I think that your magazine goes well with the pop genre. The thing that I don’t like is that the front cover looks a bit bare maybe you might need to add some more cover lines. I would only change the side of ‘single of the week’; this is because it is hard to see.
Rate: 8/10
Julie said: “I like that the cover lines are in different fonts and sizes this makes it look more exciting. Also I think that it does go with the genre that you are going for. I don’t like that you can’t see the tag line of the title. I would change the size of the tag line and I would add some more cover lines.
Rate: 7/10
Charlotte said: “I like the different fonts and sizes of the cover lines, but I like that they are all the same colour. I think to go with the genre it need to have a bit more colour on it but apart from that I think it goes with it. I don’t like that single of the week is so small because I can’t see it very well. I would change some of the colours on the front cover.
Rate: 9/10
Faith said: “I think that the front cover is laid out really well, I like that the cover lines are away from the models face. Yes it does go with you genre. The only thing that I don’t like would be that under ‘single of the week’ there is a gap that could fit in another cover line. I would just add in another cover line and then I think that it will be fine.
Rate: 9/10
Harry said: “The colours on the front cover make it look professional and the different fonts make it look more interesting. Yes I think it goes look like the pop genre. I don’t like the size of the price of the magazine because if people can’t see the price then they won’t buy it. I think that I would change some of the sizes of the cover lines because I can’t see them.

Millie said: “I think that the title is a good font and I like that all the cover lines are the same colour. Think that it does go with the genre that you are going for.  I don’t like that some of the cover lines such as ‘single of the week’ are much smaller than the other cover lines. They don’t need to but the same size be I think that some of them could be made bigger.
Rate: 7.5/10
Samantha said: “You have a very good front cover; it looks like something that I would get from a shop to read. I did think that it looked like it was to do with pop music when I looked at the front cover. The only thing I don’t like is the size of some of the fonts because for some people it could be hard to read and you don’t want to lose people because they can’t see things.
Rate: 7/10
Colin said: “I like that none of the cover lines are covering the models face. This will give the reader a better look at the model. I don’t think that you need to add more colour because it think that the red and white is enough. It is just the gap under ‘single of the week’ that I think needs to be filled with something.
Rate: 9/10
Fi said: “I like that you have kept the same colours throughout the whole cover and I like that the cover lines are not in the same font. I think that with a bit more colour then it will appeal to the pop genre better. The cover lines need to be bigger and also I would add some more colour to the front cover.

Production of front cover

In this post I am going to show you a step-by-step guide on how I made my front cover for my music magazine
1st: The first thing I did was i got my background picture on, which is a brick wall. I did this because when I get my cover model on the cover then they colours of her dress go well with the colour of the background.
2nd: I have added my cover model to my front cover. As you can see the colour of her dress goes with the brick wall print. My cover model is making eye contact with the camera, this means that people will be drawn in by her eyes and they will read my magazine.
3rd: Now I have added my title of the magazine to the top of the front cover. My magazine is called shufflin and it is in italics because it looks like it is moving, which is what shufflin is.
4th: I have added my tag line for my mast head to my front cover. The tag line says "your weekly chart update".
5th: Now I have added the date and issue number to the top right hand side of the page. This is because the reader needs to know what issue number they are reading.
6th: I have added two cover lines to my front cover. the writing is
quite big but not so bit that it clashes with the masthead. I have kept the colour white for both cover lines because I think that it makes it look more professional
7th: I have added two more cover lines, these ones are less important than the bigger ones but they are still there to draw the reader in. I have used the same colour font throughout but i have changed the font and size of the text.
8th: I have added "Hannah" to my front cover. The writing for the text is bigger then the other cover lines, also the font is a lot simpler than the other ones. The size of the font shows that this text is the most important thing on the page apart from the masthead.
9th: Now I have added the tag lines to "Hannah". This is to give the reader a bit more information about the article but with out giving them all the information about it.
10th: Finally I added the barcode and the price of the magazine. My magazine is going to be £3.99. It is important to have the barcode and the price on the front cover because the reader does not want to go searching for the price when they are thinking about buying a magazine.

Music magazine front cover

In this post I am going to be showing you the mock up of the front cover for my music magazine.
For my magazine I have decided to keep all the cover lines to the left hand side more than the others because they then fit around my main image.
My model will be having a direct mode of address with the camera thus making eye contact with the reader. This is important because when people look at the front cover they look the models eyes. This gives a slight in site of what the magazine and article is going to be about.
The only other things that are on the right hand side there is the bar code, price and the issue number and date.

Synergy within music magazines

Synergy may be defined as two or more things functioning together to produce a result not independently obtainable. The term synergy comes from the Greek word synergia "working together".
In this case a synergy means styles and colours spreading over more than one pages to result in a easy recognisable magazine.
From looking at different music magazines I have noticed that the creators of the magazine tend to keep the same colours or styles throughout the whole magazine. You can easily recognize which front cover goes with which contents page.
On the front cover they have use a lot of blue and white except of the colours in the mast head. I can see that they have also used that when making the contents page. They have blue for some of the text and when they underline something’s. They have also included the colours from the mast head in the contents page in the chard down the right hand side of the page. I can see the name of the magazine on the contents page, it maybe smaller than it is on the front cover but it is still easily recognised.

There are a few minor things that are the same on all of these pages, such as they have all have some form of white and black on them. I think that this shows sophistication within the magazine and maybe what the article is represents.
There is a definite link between the font cover and the contents page but the colour changes on the double page spread. They do keep the colours from the double page spread over the article pages but it does not correspond to the colours on the front or the contents page.

Music Magazine Photoshoot

I have done my photo shoot for my music magazine. I took over 50 photos in my shoot; this was so I could get a good range of styles. I have chosen 5 photos to show you on my blog this was because they show you the different locations, dresses and lighting. There were 3 dresses that I had to choose from when I was taking the photos. So I decided to take photos of all the dresses in different locations. I also had 3 different locations to take the photos against. This was so I could try out different styles, lighting techniques and poses.

I have used a mid shot when I took the pictures and tried to make sure that my model has kept eye contact with the camera. This shows a direct mode of address and people get drawn in by the cover models eyes. I chose my model because I think that she has the right look for the genre of my magazine.
I chose this picture as my official photo for my front cover.
The makeup that my model is wearing is light but you can still see it and it makes a statement. I think that it helps draw the audience in because of that.
I chose the background because I think that it was simple but effective also the dress that I have picked for my cover model goes well with the background without the model fading into the background I chose dress because it looks like something that you would go out in so it suits my genre because it is simple and fun.

Style Model

I am going to use Billboard magazine as my Style model for my music magazine.
This magazine keeps the same scheme throughout the whole front cover apart from the circles in the Masthead. I could incorporate this idea in to my magazine front cover.
The cover model’s head covers up the title of the magazine; this shows me that he is the most important thing on the front cover. I think that people don’t need to see the entire name because they know the magazine by the style of the front cover its self.
They cover model is using a direct mode of address. So this draws in the audience because he looks like he is having fun in the photo shoot so the interview with him might be the same.
I have seen that they don’t use the same font size and style throughout the cover. I think that this makes it look more interesting.
The pink coloured font actually goes with the edges of the cover models blazer and tie. Also the white text goes with his shirt and the background. This is a good thing because it makes the cover and the magazine look more appealing to the reader. If the cover colours clash or just don’t go together then people won’t want to buy it because they might think that what’s inside might not be good either.
They have used a mid shot of the clover model, you can see that he is having fun but there is a slight edge of seriousness because he is stood with his hands by side and he is making a fist with his hands.  A mid shot draws in the audience better then a long shot because you can see more of his expression.
They have the barcode in the bottom left of the cover and they keep the price and issue along with it.
This front cover keeps most of the writing to the sides which goes along with was is a conventional cover style this is because that the audience can see the cover model better. This is because the cover model is the first thing that the audience see when they are looking at a magazine. There is some text over the cover model but it is there to tell the audience who he is and it grabs your attention.

Questionnaire Results

I have got the results from my questionnaire and I have decided that I am going to use pop as the genre for my magazine. This is because pop was the most choice from my questionnaire.
I have also found out that people are more likely to buy a magazine every week with the second most popular choice was never. This shows me that some people don’t by music magazines so I need to make sure that my magazine catches people’s eye.
People are willing to pay for a magazine that is within the range of £3.99 to £5.99. This can give me space to create a good magazine.
My target market thinks that I should include reviews, chart updates, new artists and interviews in my magazine. I could include artists tour dates as that came in as the second most popular choice.
The people that I have asked for my questionnaire don’t subscribe to magazines this maybe because they don’t need to but I think it could be because they haven’t found a music magazine that they want to get all the time.
I am going to include film adverts in to my magazine this is because it is what my target market thought was appropriate to have in a music magazine.
The most popular colour choice was pink. I am going to include this in my magazine as it is what my target market wants. I think that it is because pink is a colour that people usually associate with pop music.
